Moscow: Russia is taking steps to further implement its own version of swadeshi in the field of navigation systems.

The head of Roscosmos, Dmitriy Rogozin declared that the Russian Space Corporation intends to send a technical proposal to the Ministry of Transport containing details relating to further implementation of the indigenous satellite navigation system GLONASS. According to him this is being done to phase out all reliance on the American system GPS. He said that an identical proposal will be send to Rosaviatsiya, which is the Federal Air Transport Agency in Russia.

He further said that currently available equipment is capable of receiving signals transmitted by China's satellite navigation system BeiDou also. GLONASS is based upon a constellation of 25 satellites. BeiDou similarly uses 35 satellites for the purpose of determining the exact geographical location of a user.

All automobiles sold in Russia since 2017/01/01 are required to be equipped with ERA-GLONASS, a version of GLONASS.

Mr. Rogozin had informed members of the press in March that it is very difficult for the Americans to use the tactic of switching off GPS against Russian users of the said system due to unspecified technical reasons.
