Jerusalem: The Holy Fire descended in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem earlier today, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported from the scene.
Direct telecast of the Descent of the Holy Fire is conducted every year on Holy Saturday by three federal TV channels in Russia, namely NTV, Channel One and Rossiya 1.
The fire was received by a delegation of the St. Andrei the Apostle Foundation. It was taken from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv, and from there to Vnukovo Airport near Moscow by special flight.
The fire will be delivered to 15 churches in Moscow and five in Moscow region, so that everyone can light their lamps from it during Bright Week. In addition, the fire will be taken to St. Petersburg, Siberia, and to the Far East.
The Holy Fire symbolizes the uncreated light of the Resurrection of Christ and is considered sacred by the faithful. Its appearance on Orthodox Easter Eve is deemed a miracle despite its regularity.
