Moscow: The president of Russia V.V. Putin ordered a halt to the storming of Azovstal’s steel plant in Mariupol yesterday, the 21st of April 2022.
Mariupol was the de facto capital of Ukrainian controlled parts of the Donetsk People’s Republic since 2014. This cannot now continue to be the situation since Mariupol itself is now controlled by the Donetsk People’s Republic.
While being briefed about details of the battle at the steel plant by defence minister Sergei Shoigu, Mr. Putin said that it is not practical to continue the said battle.
In addition he underlined that considerations of lives and health of soldiers of Russia (and presumably its allies) are always an important factor for the leadership, and in point of fact did constitute an important factor for arriving at the decision to stop hostilities at the said steel plant.
